FPS check in Exile Assistant

While you play a map, Exile Assistant watches every frame of the game. Then it shows how smoothly the game runs on your computer and what you can improve. The check is free and works in the Windows version. Everything stays on your computer.

What you will see

  • FPS: how many frames per second the game shows. More is smoother.
  • 1% low: the FPS at the heaviest moments, for example in a big fight. If it is much lower than the usual FPS, the game noticeably slows down.
  • Stutters: short freezes of the picture. The program counts how many there were per minute.
  • What caused the stutters: the game itself or the graphics card could not keep up.
  • How busy the processor, graphics card, disk and memory were.
  • Your connection: cable or Wi-Fi, the delay to the game server and how much it jumps. This tells you whether the picture or the connection is slow.
  • What holds back the computer itself, if anything: a slow disk, little memory, a laptop on battery or in power saving mode, programs that draw on top of the game.

How to run it

  1. Start the game and enter a map.
  2. Open Exile Assistant and go to the Check tab. Choose 2, 3 or 5 minutes and press Start check.
  3. Windows asks for permission. Press Yes and go back to the game within 15 seconds.
  4. Play as usual until the check ends. Then the result appears in the program.

Some game settings even out FPS by themselves, and then you cannot see the difference between presets. The program warns you when they are on. Which settings these are is in the settings guide.

After the check

Below the result the program tells you what to do next.

  • If the computer itself is the problem, the tip is about it, for example the disk or memory. These tips are shown in red.
  • If the computer is fine, the program suggests a preset: a ready set of changes that removes some heavy effects, such as fog and particles, from the game. It goes one step at a time: Light, Medium, High, Extreme. You install it with one button. Presets are paid (Premium).
  • Next to the tip you see “Not checked”. Nobody knows in advance whether a preset helps on your computer, so we do not promise anything.
  • To find out, install the preset, enter the same map and press Check again. The program shows “Before / after”: your numbers without the preset and with it.

When it says “Checked on this computer”

Only when your second check is really better than the first: FPS or 1% low went up by at least 5%, or there are a quarter fewer stutters. Both checks must be on the same map, with the settings that even out FPS turned off. If the maps differ, the program warns that the comparison is not exact. If nothing got better, it says so.

Is it safe?

  • No data is sent. The results are kept only on your computer.
  • Frames are counted by PresentMon, a free program from Intel. It already comes with Exile Assistant, and Exile Assistant checks that the file really comes from Intel.
  • Only PresentMon needs the Windows permission, so that it can see the game’s frames. Exile Assistant itself runs without special rights.
  • The check only watches. It does not interfere with the game and changes nothing in it.
